  • You have to have watched United States of Tara to get this…  but it’s hysterical.

  • shame

Shame was a big concept in the 80s.  It still holds resonance for me.  I realize I am – what was called then – a “shame-based” person.  I have learned to correct for that.  I realize that I can esteem my self- thank you very much.  I am just very sensitive (said with a whine).  I care too much about what other people think of me – which is really just projection.  I am worried about being seen and judged.  But I can’t really be hurt by other people’s judgments unless I agree, thus it’s my own judgments that have held power over me and I can change that.

  • My New Office

I hope to get the keys to my new office tomorrow!

It’s at 205 Oak St. Ste. 1, above The Trillium Cafe.

I bought a rug, but I’m not sure about the color.

I bought a very simple writing desk, which I really like.

    Two simple accent tables

    a simple futon couch

still need to decide about art and other chairs

  • 13th Step

A speaker bravely shared her history of early recovery including the 13th step.  There’s a rule in recovery: “no relationships in the first year.”  It’s not written down anywhere, more of an oral tradition.  And unfortunately, it’s rarely if ever followed.  And my point about it is it’s a rule for the old-timers.  Hello, men: stop distracting newbies from their early recovery!  My other point about it is, we do everything in recovery that we did while drinking the same until we learn to do it differently.  And that includes love and relationships.

  • I am not my hair

I love this video by India Arie.  It’s a tribute to Melissa Ethridge, when she lost her hair due to chemo.

I am not my hair, or my career.  Greg and I have been talking about that.  He identifies so much with being a chef and I identify so much with being a therapist.  When you think about losing your career, what does it bring up about your identity?

  • where am I?

I have a blog that is simply a list of my other blogs and url’s, entitled: where on the net is jane?  It’s sort of weird to stare at it.  Does that list encapsulate me? It seems so fractured. And where am I the most honest?  It used to be here, on xanga.  It’s been over a year since I regularly blogged here, maybe two.  Let me go check.  Well, I wrote this apology over a year ago to xanga.

Right at this moment, today, I feel the universe yelling “wake up!  Where have you been?

  • I don’t understand runes…

    statement

The Diamond spread reveals the dynamic forces at work in a situation. It is the spread of choice for understanding a hidden conflict. Ice Runes are most commonly used for questions about struggle, conflict, and achievement.
The bottom rune represents the foundation that forms the basis of the issue. Ken is the rune of light and knowledge, driving away darkness and ignorance and revealing hidden truth. This rune also brings forth images of friendship and comfort. Ken is the light of inspiration, the light of imagination, and a beacon in the darkest hours.  [ok, I will focus on my truth and my friends in life]
The left rune represents one of the forces acting on the issue at hand. Sowelu is a strong symbol, for it represents the sun. Unlike equatorial cultures who may see the sun as a harsh and imperial force capable of causing droughts, in the cold north the sun is a purely feminine force that gives life and allows crops to grow. In dark times, this rune represents clarity of sight and the victory of good over evil. Sowelu is irreversible, as the cycles of the sun and seasons are perpetual.  [Clarity of sight - Victory]
The right rune represents another of the forces acting on the issue at hand. Raido means to ride. In this rune, the image is not so much the riding of a horse as in riding in a cart or as cargo. As such Raido may suggest a journey, but is much more indicative of communication. Alternate interpretations based on the use of Raido as a cognate in other words give it the meaning of council, judgment, and moral correctness. Therefore, this rune is the rune of wise advice and good leadership.
The top rune represents the conclusion to which your strivings can carry you. Eoh refers to the Yew tree. The Yew does not go dormant and therefore represents endurance. Even the wood of the tree is strong, resilient, and pliable – the Yew bends, but does not break. The evergreen nature of the Yew is present even in the rune itself, as it cannot be changed even by reversal. This rune is historically symbolic of death, but, as in the Tarot and as suggested by the nature of the Yew tree itself, death is seen only as a transmutation of something eternal and unchanging – the spirit.  [bend with breaking; death]
